Smart Road (Tark Tee) is the official traffic information system of the Estonian Transport Administration. Its open data enables, for example, monitoring traffic density, analyzing factors that may hinder mobility, and using analysis results in public transport network planning.
Through the Smart Road DATEX II data gateway, it is possible to access datasets such as:
- Traffic safety-related data (e.g., information on road slipperiness and obstacles on the road);
- Traffic restriction data (e.g., information on fully or partially closed roads, temporarily increased speed limits, road works, weight restrictions, and detours);
- Traffic camera images (updated every 10 minutes);
- Locations of traffic cameras;
- Measurements from road weather stations;
- Measurements from traffic counters;
- Locations of road weather stations and traffic counters;
- Locations of truck parking areas.
Location data is provided either as geographic point coordinates (e.g., speed camera locations) or as linear location data (e.g., road segments where road works are taking place). Most datasets are updated in real time. The data is published in compliance with the pan-European DATEX II standard for traffic data exchange.
