The open data from the Building Register makes it possible, in combination with other datasets, to study for example access to schools, shops, potential workplaces, public institutions, and services using different modes of transport; to analyze residential choice based on proximity to various facilities; and to examine lifestyle-related mobility in different regions, among other topics.

The open data of the Building Register includes information on building addresses, intended use (e.g., school building, grocery store, office building), building parts (e.g., apartments), coordinates of spatial geometries, entrance coordinates, technical characteristics (e.g., type of heat source), building and occupancy permits, energy performance certificates, and related cadastral units.

The open data of the Building Register is updated daily, and the oldest available data dates back to 1994. The data can be downloaded in CSV format.

Data Usage

Extracts from the data can be generated both via the Building Register’s web environment and through an API. It is also possible to order extracts of the open data to one’s email address by specifying the desired starting date of the data.
